Every morning while some kids are working in a reading group the others are involved in literacy activities from writing to listening to a story to reading on their own.
We're getting better at solving subtraction facts to 20. Today we tried a 4 minute "mad minute!"
Dear Farmer Brown,
We will do ANYTHING for a diving board, like:
1. we will take out the trash
2. we will give you tea, chocolate
3. we will make you the king
4. we will clean the farm
5. we will find you a wife
6. we will clean your house
7. we will be your maids and servants

We read a book called Click Clack Moo about ducks who want a diving board on the farm. We all wrote to the farmer to try and persuade him!
During our literacy time each morning kids can read to a friend. They both get a chance to read a book or portion of a book, while discussing what is happening and asking any questions they may have.
In the morning kids finish any work they have from the day before and then begin reading and writing activities. Some kids work together on stories to publish.
Kids used their shape sets in pairs to solve some tricky shape riddles. They figured out every one!
I couldn't find my car this morning! Hope all of you had a fun day in the snow! See you on Monday!
Every morning when kids come in they get busy right away. They have classroom jobs to take care of and then they are off! Sydney was writing an eagle observation in her journal. Ian was checking his mailbox.
We got a new friend in our class today! He has already learned about our school and was busy playing a math game!
At the end of each month we brainstorm important classroom events to include on our timeline. Kids then work in pairs to complete this work, on the computer, on a Neo, or on paper. Events kids wanted to add to our timeline for February included eagle observations, Chinese New Year, Valentine's Day and many other topics. Look in your kids' home folders for copies of what they wrote!
